Our Founder
Molly Gill (she/her) is the founder of Lesbian Art Lovers. Molly’s earliest memory is of watching her mother paint a landscape of the mountains of northern New Mexico, where she grew up.
Molly fell in love with art when she saw images of the Ghent Altarpiece for the first time, during a college class. Molly began seeing and learning about as much art as she could, which led to planning art-focused vacations for herself and her mother to France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Italy. In 2022, Molly created Lesbian Art Lovers as a way for LGBTQ women to connect and experience art together. In 2026, she incorporated the organization as an LLC to expand its reach and activities.
Molly is a lesbian, a mediocre artist (favorite medium: pastel), a lawyer, and a writer. When she is not busy planning events for Lesbian Art Lovers, Molly can be found lifting weights in the gym, watching the latest hit K-drama, or exploring Washington, DC’s queer scene with friends.

Our Story: A Note from the Founder
If you are an LGBTQ+ woman who loves women and the arts, you are in the right place! Welcome!
I made this space for you – but I also made it for me. After many decades in the closet, I came out as a lesbian at age 41 (long story!). I immediately faced a dilemma: I needed some lesbian friends. And it would be great if some of those friends liked art as much as I did. So, I decided to start a Meetup group called Lesbian Art Lovers in my home city of Washington, DC, in July 2022. The premise was simple: we would gather once a month at a museum or art exhibition, see some great art, and chat and mingle afterwards. I had low expectations: I thought that if 12 people joined and I made one friend from the group, that would be a wild success.
Much to my surprise, the group exploded! As of July 2026, the Meetup group has more than 1,200 members. Attendees have found BFFs, dates, and girlfriends through our events. I never get tired of watching our Lesbian Art Lovers build community – or discover a new artist or artwork that speaks to them, exactly where they are that day.
In 2026, I decided to incorporate Lesbian Art Lovers and begin providing more kinds of art- and culture-focused events, travel experiences, and educational content for all Sapphic women to enjoy. You’ll find all of that available at this site and at our Substack page. Appreciating art together is an act of expression, self-discovery, and connection – all values the LGBTQ community holds dear.
